“You are the light of the world, a city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16
These inspiring words of Jesus from the Gospel of Matthew remind us of our true calling. As God’s beloved daughters and sons, we are destined to be light and life for the world. Oftentimes, we are tempted to doubt or hide our God-given talents. Jesus, however, calls us to a life of greater daring and boldness. We are to climb to the top of the mountain and let our gifts shine for all to see.
Jesus calls us to share our time and talent so that others can see the goodness of God working in and through us. We are called to be everyday sacraments. This is a sacred vocation indeed!
